Bill, Pauline & the Mystery Woman
“The following is just my brain ramblings about what that photo might be about and who the mystery woman may be…
Studying that picture where three of them are together at the precipice, it’s logical to say the other woman might be GG’s (Pauline’s) younger sis Nancy Pearl but that is just a guess. I am guessing that their location might be in surrounding hills of Roane County, looking down on the town of Harriman. It was quite remote back then. The reason I’m guessing at this is twofold:
1. I can assume the newlyweds (Pauline & Bill, with Nancy P in tow and whoever the photographer may have been) probably went on a little Sunday afternoon hike up there. (ha!! All guesswork)
What came to mind is this:
2. When Susan and I were little, I distinctly remember my dad taking us on 2 hikes in the hills above the city while we were visiting Harriman. The scenery seemed very similar to this picture to me. He called one area of the hike (in the hilly low mountains) the Salt Box and the other was the Cracker Box. So it could be one of those two locations. Total assumption though. I don’t know how these names came about or what they mean but I just remembered these hikes because it was so remotely beautiful…kinda like the photo…”
